On the 1st July 1975 CB radio (Citizens Band) was officially released in Germany. Back then it started on a few channels and with very limited power. For the first time, the CB radio offered private individuals the opportunity to use radios without an amateur radio license - for leisure, hobby, but also for practical purposes such as communication in traffic or at events.
Over the decades, CB radio evolved further - new frequencies were added, the permitted output power was increased, AM, FM and later SSB modes were allowed. Today, CB radio is not as ubiquitous as it used to be, but it still has an active community.
From 1st July until 7th July 2025 on channel 31 FM (27.315) a radio week commemorating the 50th anniversary will take place. Everyone is invited to listen in, join in, and celebrate the anniversary of German CB radio together!
